About Us
Gary Bordeau was raised in Rotterdam, the Capital Region’s “Cradle of Builders”. Gary’s father first introduced him to working with tools. The elder Bordeau was a railroader who bought apartment houses to fix up and also doubled as a self taught handyman. At the age of 16, Gary began working for contractors with various specialties, thereby learning the essentials of all the pertinent trades. By age 19 Gary knew that he had a gift; he was an excellent tradesman and master trim carpenter with a broad knowledge in " footings to finishes”.
In 1980 he had his own company, remodeling and subcontracting for other local homebuilders. By 1982 he decided he wanted to build homes himself. As Bordeau Builders was becoming recognized as a custom home builder, this reputation was limited to a high price range and a narrow geographic area. Gary knew this had limitations and decided to reinvent the company, going to different locations and offering a wider range of home prices. With the re-tooling of the company, he decided to take on land development. This was a very competitive market; to succeed he wanted prime locations with premium lots, to match his critical eye and attention to detail.
These decisions led to a much stronger company. Some doubted that Bordeau’s painstaking, custom oriented methods could be successfully adapted to the smaller, more affordable home market. But after making the necessary adjustments, his success has definitely validated those decisions.
Bordeau Builders, Inc. proved to be an immediate hit with buyers seeking the semi-custom well finished home in the affordable price range. With hundreds of single family homes built, and several town home and condominium projects completed, Gary is doing what he loves, and loves helping people build their dream home and “Open the door to their future”.
